Side menu

The main Classes menu: choosing a school, the pages of the chosen school, notifications, your profile and logout.

Ask Classy

Keeps everything you reach for often in one place: switching between your schools, the pages of the chosen school, notifications and your profile.

On a computer the menu sits on the left and can be collapsed to icons. On a phone it is hidden and opens with the Open menu button at the top left, or by swiping right from the left edge of the screen.

The menu is always about one school, the one chosen at the top. What you see under it depends on your role in that school:

  • if you run it (as owner or staff), you see Admin Actions, the pages for managing the school;
  • if you are a user in it, you see its pages: Calendar, Announcements, Payments, Lessons and Groups;
  • if you are not in any group of the school yet, you only see Groups.

At the bottom are the Account section with My Profile and Logout, and a box with your picture, name and email that carries the notifications bell.

Good to know

On a phone the menu closes by itself when you open a page. It also closes with the X button, by tapping outside it, by swiping left or with the Escape key.

On a computer the collapsed state isn't remembered, after a reload the menu is expanded.

The chosen school is remembered on this device, even after you close the browser. When you open a link to a school's page, the menu switches to that school.

On this screen

Collapse and expand menu button

Collapse sidebar

Collapses the menu to icons or expands it again.

Frees up screen space for the content.

On a computer the arrows button collapses the menu ("Collapse sidebar") or expands it ("Expand sidebar"). In a collapsed menu the text appears when you hover over an icon, and counters become small badges on the icon's corner. On a phone the button is an X ("Close sidebar") that closes the menu.

School picker

Organisation picker

The button at the top of the menu with the logo and name of the chosen school.

Lets you switch between your schools, create a new school or search for another one.

Under the school's name it says Switch organisation. Pressing it opens a list of your schools, split in two:

  • My organisations, the schools you run, tagged Administrator (owner) or Staff;
  • Organisations I attend, the schools where you are a user.

The chosen school has a check mark. When you pick another one, the whole menu under the button changes to it. If you are on a school's page at that moment, the page of the new school opens. The list closes with the Escape key or by tapping outside it.

If you don't have any schools yet, the list reads "You have no organisations yet."

At first the last school you used is chosen. If there isn't one, the first school you run is chosen, otherwise the first one where you are a user.

Organisation settings

Opens the settings of the chosen school.

Takes you to the school's settings: profile, rooms, event colours and more.

Only shown if you run the chosen school and are its owner or have the Edit organisation profile or Manage events and their sessions permission. The settings aren't in the list of admin actions, they open only from here.

New organisation

Opens the page for creating a school.

Lets you create your own school in Classes.

Always near the bottom of the list. It takes you to the page for creating a school.

Search organisations

Opens the school search.

Lets you find a new school and join it.

Always near the bottom of the list. It takes you to the school search page.

School pages for users

The rows under the school picker when you are a user in the school rather than running it.

Open the school pages you use every day in one press.

The rows are the same as the tabs of the school's page:

  • Calendar and Announcements are shown if you are in at least one group of the school;
  • Payments and Lessons are also for users in at least one group;
  • Groups is always shown, even if you are not in any group yet.

The row of the page you are on is highlighted. School owners and staff don't see these rows, they see Admin Actions instead.

Payments and the choices counter

Opens your payments in the school.

Shows with a number how many choices you still have to make.

The number next to the row is the count of choices (for example, of a plan option) the school has offered you that you haven't made yet. Above 99 it shows "99+". When there is nothing to choose, there is no number. In a collapsed menu the number is a small badge on the icon's corner.

Admin Actions section

The pages for managing the chosen school.

Takes owners and staff to the school's calendar, attendance, groups, users, finance, announcements and help.

Only shown if you run the chosen school, as owner or staff. The rows open the admin area for exactly that school. Which rows you see depends on your permissions: some are for every staff member, others need a specific permission. A row you have no permission for is simply missing.

Calendar (admin)

Opens the calendar for managing classes.

Takes you to scheduling events and classes.

Shown if you are the owner or have the Manage events and their sessions permission.

Attendance

Opens the school's attendance.

Takes you to marking attendance.

Shown to every owner and staff member of the school.

Groups (admin)

Opens managing the school's groups.

Takes you to creating, editing and deleting groups.

Shown if you are the owner or have the Manage groups permission.

Users and the requests counter

Opens the school's user list.

Shows with a number how many join requests are waiting for a decision.

Shown to every owner and staff member. The number next to it is the count of pending group join requests across all schools you manage. If you are staff with access to certain groups only, only their requests are counted. Above 99 it shows "99+". With no pending requests there is no number.

Finance

Opens the school's finance.

Takes you to the school's charges, payments and plans.

Shown if you are the owner or have the View financials permission.

Announcements (admin)

Opens the school's announcements.

Takes you to publishing and managing announcements for users.

Shown if you are the owner or have the Publish announcements permission.

Help desk and the replies counter

Opens the school's tickets with the Classes team.

Shows with a number how many replies from the Classes team you haven't opened yet.

Shown to every owner and staff member, no permission is needed. The number next to it is the count of unread replies from the team across the school's tickets. When the team replies or resolves a ticket, you also get a notification.

Account section in the menu

The bottom part of the menu with your profile and logout, and the notifications bell.

Keeps your personal things and logout in one place.

Always at the bottom of the menu, under the school's pages. Language and theme are no longer in the menu, you change them from your profile (My Profile → Language and Theme).

Notifications bell and the unread counter

The bell on the right of the box with your picture and name at the bottom of the menu.

Shows with a number how many new notifications you have and opens them for viewing.

The number on the bell is the count of unread items among your latest 20 notifications. Above 99 it shows "99+". Pressing it opens or closes the Notifications panel. In a collapsed menu on a computer the bell isn't visible, expand the menu to use it.

On a phone the number also shows on the Open menu button, because the bell is inside the menu.

The counter only looks at your latest 20 notifications, so with many unread it can show fewer.

Notifications panel

The list of your latest 20 notifications.

Lets you read what happened in your schools and groups.

On a computer it opens next to the menu; on a phone, in the lower half of the menu. Each notification has a title, text and a date. Unread ones are tinted, with a bold title and a dot in front of it.

As soon as you open the panel, the visible unread notifications are marked as read and the counter goes down. While the panel is open the list refreshes every 20 seconds; while it is closed, every minute. The arrow button in the top right corner closes it.

Some notifications lead to a page: for example, a reply from the Classes team opens the ticket in Help desk, and a notice that a plan choice was offered to you opens the school's payments. Such notifications are buttons, pressing one closes the panel and opens the page.

With no notifications the panel reads "You have no new notifications."

Notifications without a linked page only describe what happened.

You choose which kinds of notifications you get from My Profile → Notifications.

My Profile

Opens your profile.

Takes you to your personal details, children, payments and settings.

Opens your profile. On a computer you first see General Data; on a phone, a list of the sections. The row is highlighted while you are on your profile.

Logout

Logs you out.

Ends your session on this device.

Logs you out straight away, without confirmation. The next time you open Classes you have to log in again.
