Which notifications you get

How to switch the individual kinds of notifications on or off in **Notifications** on your profile.

How it works

Lets you get only the notifications you care about, for example, stop session reminders but keep new charge notifications.

All notifications are on by default. Each kind has its own switch with a short description. The kinds are arranged in groups, and each group also has a master switch next to its title: it is on while at least one kind in it is on, switching it off turns every kind in the group off, and switching it on when they are all off turns them all on.

When you switch a kind off, Classes stops sending it to you: it doesn't show up in the Notifications panel, doesn't arrive as a phone notification and isn't sent by email. Notifications you already received stay.

Changes aren't saved straight away. As soon as you change a switch, an Unsaved changes bar with Discard and Save buttons appears at the bottom of the screen. Save stores the changes on your account and they apply on every device, while Discard returns the switches to what was last saved. On a phone, the Notifications row in the list of sections shows how many kinds are on, for example "5 of 9".

Good to know

The Organizer Notifications section is only shown if you own or work for a school.

If school staff manually send a reminder for a class, it reaches you even if reminders are off.

If you leave the page without pressing Save, your changes are lost.

If you don't get notifications on your phone, check that you allowed notifications for the Classes app in your phone's settings.

The notifications you get as a school member or parent.

Lets you decide which events in your schools and groups you want to hear about.

Below the title it says "Choose which notifications you'd like to receive." The section is always shown and has five groups: Announcements, Classes & Events, Groups & Membership, Payments and Organization.

Announcements group

Notifications about announcements in your schools and groups.

Lets you switch every notification in this group on or off at once, or each one separately.

Contains: "New Announcements", "Comments on Your Announcements". The switch next to the group title is on while at least one notification in it is on. Switching it off turns them all off at once, and switching it on when they are all off turns them all on. The change is saved with Save.

New Announcements toggle

New announcements posted in your groups or organizations.

You find out straight away when a school or group you belong to posts an announcement.

Below the name it says "New announcements posted in your groups or organizations." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

Comments on Your Announcements toggle

Someone commented on an announcement you posted.

You find out when someone replies to an announcement you posted.

Below the name it says "Someone commented on an announcement you posted." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

Classes & Events group

Notifications about your class schedule.

Lets you switch every notification in this group on or off at once, or each one separately.

Contains: "New Classes Scheduled", "Class Cancellations", "Removed Classes", "Class Reschedules", "Upcoming Class Reminders", "Published Lessons", "Shared Notes". The switch next to the group title is on while at least one notification in it is on. Switching it off turns them all off at once, and switching it on when they are all off turns them all on. The change is saved with Save.

New Classes Scheduled toggle

A new class or event has been scheduled.

You hear about a new session or event in your groups without checking the calendar.

Below the name it says "A new class or event has been scheduled." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

Class Cancellations toggle

A class you're enrolled in was cancelled or reinstated.

You learn in time that a session was cancelled or is back on.

Below the name it says "A class you're enrolled in was cancelled or reinstated." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

Removed Classes toggle

A class you're signed up for was removed from the schedule.

You find out that a class you are signed up for is no longer on the schedule.

Below the name it says "A class you're signed up for was removed from the schedule." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

Class Reschedules toggle

A class you're enrolled in was moved to a new time.

You learn when a session moves to another day or time.

Below the name it says "A class you're enrolled in was moved to a new time." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

Upcoming Class Reminders toggle

Reminders before your upcoming classes start.

Reminds you a day and an hour before a class, so you don't miss it.

Below the name it says "Reminders before your upcoming classes start." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

You get the automatic reminder unless you answered that you won't come. If school staff manually send a reminder for a specific class, it reaches you even if this notification is off.

Published Lessons toggle

A lesson was published for one of your classes.

You find out when a lesson with materials is published for one of your classes.

Below the name it says "A lesson was published for one of your classes." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

Shared Notes toggle

A staff member shared a note on your profile.

You find out when a staff member has shared a note with you on your profile.

Below the name it says "A staff member shared a note on your profile." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

Groups & Membership group

Notifications about your group membership.

Lets you switch every notification in this group on or off at once, or each one separately.

Contains: "Join Request Approved", "Join Request Declined", "Added to a Group", "Removed from a Group". The switch next to the group title is on while at least one notification in it is on. Switching it off turns them all off at once, and switching it on when they are all off turns them all on. The change is saved with Save.

Join Request Approved toggle

Your request to join a group was approved.

You learn you were accepted into a group you asked to join.

Below the name it says "Your request to join a group was approved." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

Join Request Declined toggle

Your request to join a group was declined.

You learn your request to join a group was declined.

Below the name it says "Your request to join a group was declined." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

Added to a Group toggle

You were added to a group.

You learn when a school adds you straight into a group.

Below the name it says "You were added to a group." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

Removed from a Group toggle

You were removed from a group.

You learn when a school removes you from a group.

Below the name it says "You were removed from a group." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

Payments group

Notifications about charges, payments and plan choices.

Lets you switch every notification in this group on or off at once, or each one separately.

Contains: "New Charges", "Recorded Payments", "Charge Due Reminders", "Charge Waived", "Pack Renewal Reminders", "Plan Choices". The switch next to the group title is on while at least one notification in it is on. Switching it off turns them all off at once, and switching it on when they are all off turns them all on. The change is saved with Save.

New Charges toggle

You've been billed a new charge.

You learn a school has issued you a new charge to pay.

Below the name it says "You've been billed a new charge." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

Recorded Payments toggle

Your organization marked one of your charges as paid in cash or by bank transfer.

You get confirmation when the school records your cash or bank payment.

Below the name it says "Your organization marked one of your charges as paid in cash or by bank transfer." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

Charge Due Reminders toggle

Reminders for overdue charges and charges that are due soon.

Reminds you about charges that are nearly due and about overdue charges, so you don't fall behind.

Below the name it says "Reminders for overdue charges and charges that are due soon." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

For an overdue charge you automatically get at most three reminders, one each evening after the due date. A reminder sent manually by the school always reaches you.

Charge Waived toggle

A charge of yours was waived by the organization.

You learn the school waived a charge and you no longer owe it.

Below the name it says "A charge of yours was waived by the organization." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

Pack Renewal Reminders toggle

A class pack is out of credits or expiring soon.

Reminds you when your class pack has run out or is about to expire.

Below the name it says "A class pack is out of credits or expiring soon." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

Plan Choices toggle

A plan choice was opened for you, or you were reminded to pick.

You find out when the school offers you a choice between plan options or reminds you to pick.

Below the name it says "A plan choice was opened for you, or you were reminded to pick." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

The notification opens your payments in the school, where you make the choice.

Organization group

Notifications for when you are assigned as staff or your staff permissions change.

Lets you switch every notification in this group on or off at once, or each one separately.

Contains: "Staff Assignments", "Permission Changes". The switch next to the group title is on while at least one notification in it is on. Switching it off turns them all off at once, and switching it on when they are all off turns them all on. The change is saved with Save.

Staff Assignments toggle

You were assigned as staff to an organization or group.

You find out when you are added as staff to a school or group.

Below the name it says "You were assigned as staff to an organization or group." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

Permission Changes toggle

Your staff permissions in an organization were changed.

You find out when your staff permissions or group access in a school were changed.

Below the name it says "Your staff permissions in an organization were changed." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

Organizer Notifications section

The notifications about the schools you own or work for.

Lets owners and staff choose what they hear about their school.

Below the title it says "Notifications related to organizations you own or work for." Only shown if you own or work for at least one school. It has the Classes & Events, Groups & Membership, Payments, Organization and Support groups. The settings apply to all your schools at once.

Classes & Events group

Notifications about users' attendance answers.

Lets you switch every notification in this group on or off at once, or each one separately.

Contains: "Sign-up Changes". The switch next to the group title is on while at least one notification in it is on. Switching it off turns them all off at once, and switching it on when they are all off turns them all on. The change is saved with Save.

Sign-up Changes toggle

A member confirmed or declined attending a class.

You see who is coming when a user confirms or declines attending a class.

Below the name it says "A member confirmed or declined attending a class." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

Groups & Membership group

Notifications about requests to your school's groups.

Lets you switch every notification in this group on or off at once, or each one separately.

Contains: "New Join Requests". The switch next to the group title is on while at least one notification in it is on. Switching it off turns them all off at once, and switching it on when they are all off turns them all on. The change is saved with Save.

New Join Requests toggle

Someone requested to join one of your groups.

You find out straight away when someone asks to join one of your school's groups.

Below the name it says "Someone requested to join one of your groups." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

Payments group

Notifications about your school's payments, plans and payment account.

Lets you switch every notification in this group on or off at once, or each one separately.

Contains: "Charge Payments", "Payment Account Issues", "Plans Picked". The switch next to the group title is on while at least one notification in it is on. Switching it off turns them all off at once, and switching it on when they are all off turns them all on. The change is saved with Save.

Charge Payments toggle

A candidate paid a charge from your organization.

You find out when a member pays a charge to your school.

Below the name it says "A candidate paid a charge from your organization." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

Payment Account Issues toggle

An issue with your organization's payment account needs attention.

Warns you when the school's payment account has a problem that could stop online payments.

Below the name it says "An issue with your organization's payment account needs attention." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

Plans Picked toggle

A member picked or switched a plan.

You find out when a user picks or switches a plan option.

Below the name it says "A member picked or switched a plan." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

It goes to staff with the Manage payment plans permission who have access to the plan's first group. For a plan for the whole organisation, every staff member with that permission gets it.

Organization group

Notifications about the schools you own.

Lets you switch every notification in this group on or off at once, or each one separately.

Contains: "Organization Created". The switch next to the group title is on while at least one notification in it is on. Switching it off turns them all off at once, and switching it on when they are all off turns them all on. The change is saved with Save.

Organization Created toggle

Confirmation when you create a new organization.

Confirms that your new school has been created.

Below the name it says "Confirmation when you create a new organization." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

Support group

Notifications about the school's tickets with the Classes team.

Lets you switch every notification in this group on or off at once, or each one separately.

Contains: "Classes Team Replies", "Resolved Help Desk Tickets". The switch next to the group title is on while at least one notification in it is on. Switching it off turns them all off at once, and switching it on when they are all off turns them all on. The change is saved with Save.

Classes Team Replies toggle

The Classes team replied to one of your help desk tickets.

You find out when the Classes team replies to one of the school's tickets in the Help desk.

Below the name it says "The Classes team replied to one of your help desk tickets." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

Resolved Help Desk Tickets toggle

One of your help desk tickets was marked as resolved.

You find out when the Classes team marks one of the school's tickets as resolved.

Below the name it says "One of your help desk tickets was marked as resolved." On by default. The change is saved with Save.

Frequently asked questions

I switched a notification off, but I still get something similar. Why?

Check that you pressed **Save**. If it is a class reminder, school staff may have sent it manually, such reminders always reach you.
