Marking one member's attendance

How to mark a member as here or not here, and how to fix a wrong mark.

Ask Classy

Step by step

  1. 1

Open the session from the Sessions or Sign-ups view.

  2. 2

Find the member in the Attendance section.

  3. 3

Press ✓ Here or ✕ Not here.

  4. 4

To correct it, press the other button.

How it works

Records who was actually at the session. This record drives pack credits, the Attendance column for past sessions and the rate in the attendance grid.

You can mark from the session panel (the ✓ Here and ✕ Not here buttons) or from the Grid (click a cell). It saves straight away.

You can change a mark at any time, including for past sessions, just press the other button. A mark can't be removed completely: once marked, a member stays here or not here.

Marking doesn't send a notification to the member or parent. On a session that counts toward packs, a Here mark uses a credit and changing it to Not here gives it back.

You need the Manage attendance permission. If your access is limited to your groups, you can only mark members from them.

Good to know

There's no 'excused absence' status. Mark Not here and add a note with the reason.

If the buttons are grey: 'You don't have permission to record attendance' means you lack Manage attendance; 'Attendance is finalized, reopen it to make changes' means press Reopen attendance.

If 'Couldn't save the attendance mark. Try again.' appears, the mark wasn't saved, press the button again.

On this screen

Couldn't save the attendance mark message

Couldn't save the attendance mark. Try again.

A pop-up message when a mark wasn't saved.

Warns you the mark wasn't kept.

It appears on failure in both the panel and the grid. In the grid the cell goes back to its previous state. Try again; if it keeps failing, check the member belongs to one of your groups.

You don't have permission to record attendance hint

Appears when you hover a grey marking button.

Explains why you can't mark.

It shows when you don't have the Manage attendance permission. You can view attendance but not change it. Ask the school owner for the permission.

Frequently asked questions

Can I mark attendance for a past session?

Yes. Open it from **Sessions** → **Past** or from the **Grid** and mark as usual.

How do I set a member back to unmarked?

That isn't possible. If you marked **Here** by mistake, change it to **Not here**.

Does the parent find out their child was marked absent?

No. Marking sends no notification and parents don't see the record.
