Groups in the admin area
The list of all the school's groups in the admin area, and where you create, edit and delete them.
Ask ClassyShows the school's groups, the basic unit users are enrolled in, and gives the team a place to manage them.
It opens from Groups under Admin Actions in the menu. It is only shown with the Manage groups permission; without it you are sent to Users. Groups aren't created, edited or deleted from the Groups tab of the school's page, that tab is only for browsing and enrolling.
Each group is a card with the name (a link to managing the group), the visibility Private or Public, up to two lines of the description and the first assigned administrator. If more are assigned, "+N" appears next to it. A group with no staff member assigned is marked No administrator. The Manage button opens the group's page.
The edit and delete icons only show if you can manage that exact group: the owner, for all groups, a staff member with Manage groups, only for the groups they are assigned to. Deleting is only offered for groups with no enrolled people and no pending requests.
If the school has categories, groups are arranged in folders, one per category, plus Uncategorised for the rest.
Above the list are the Categories, Expand all (or Collapse all) and New group buttons. On a phone they are round buttons at the top of the screen.
Good to know
Until the school has at least one group, nobody can be added or invited to it.
Which folders are open is kept in the page address, the browser's Back button closes the last opened one, and a link to the page opens the same folders.
A staff member whose group access is Only their groups sees only the groups they are assigned to in the list.
