Deleting a group

When you can delete a group, how it works, and why the delete button is sometimes missing.

Step by step

    Make sure the group has no enrolled people, remove them from Users in the admin dashboard.

    Approve or decline every pending request for the group.

  3. 3

    Open Groups under Admin Actions and press the bin on the group's card.

    Confirm with Delete Group.

How it works

Permanently removes a group you no longer need, for example one created by mistake or left empty.

You delete from the red bin icon (Delete Group) on the group card in Groups (under Admin Actions). It only shows when all three conditions are met:

  • you have the Manage groups permission;
  • you are the owner or assigned to that group (and, if your access is Only their groups, the group is one of yours);
  • the group has no active members and no pending join requests.

The server checks the same conditions and refuses to delete a group that has members or pending requests.

The group's staff assignments, invite links and old requests are removed along with it. This cannot be undone.

Good to know

Former members who have already been removed from the group, and requests already approved or declined, don't block deletion.

If the bin doesn't appear right after you emptied the group, reload the page.

It reads “Delete "<name>"? This group has no members and no pending requests. This cannot be undone.” Delete Group deletes the group and removes it from the list; while it runs the button is disabled. Cancel closes the window.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I see the delete button for a group?

The group has at least one member or pending request, or you aren't allowed to manage it. Remove the members, handle the requests, and check that you have **Manage groups** and are assigned to the group.

Can I restore a deleted group?

No. Deleting is permanent.
