How it works
Creates a link you send by message or email. Whoever opens it joins the group with a real account, without you adding them by hand.
The Join Link button is on Users in the admin dashboard. You can also create a link from the group's page with the Invite link button, with that group already chosen; it is shown if you can manage that exact group. It shows when you have the Manage members permission and the school has at least one group. The server also only allows groups within your reach.
In the Group Join Link window you choose a Group and a Link type:
- Request (default), public group: joins immediately; private group: files a join request you approve.
- Direct: joins immediately, without approval, even for a private group.
Under Settings you can limit the Number of uses (default Unlimited) and Valid for (default No expiry). After Generate Link the link is shown with Copy and (where the device supports it) Share buttons.
Every new link is separate, generating doesn't revoke older ones. All links for the group are under Links for this group, where you can copy or revoke active ones.
The recipient has to log in. They see the group name, whether it is private or public, and what will happen. A parent chooses whether to enrol themselves or one or more children, one visit to the link uses up one use, however many children join together.
Good to know
If the school has no groups, “Create your organisation's first group” shows instead of the button. The owner also sees a Create a group button.
A link with an end date is valid until the end of the chosen day.
A Direct link skips approval, keep it safe and only send it to people you trust.
A revoked, expired or used-up link shows the recipient that it can no longer be used and suggests asking for a new one.
