Ask Classy

Step by step

  1. 1

    Open the invite link.

  2. 2

Log in if you are asked to.

  3. 3

Check the group and school name.

  4. 4

Choose who is joining, your child, several children or yourself.

  5. 5

    Press the join button.

  6. 6

Press Go to Group to open the group.

How it works

The link takes you straight to a specific group without searching and lets you enrol yourself or your child with one press.

You need to be logged in. If you aren't, you are asked to log in first and then brought back to the invite.

The page shows which group and school you are invited to and what will happen when you join:

  • if the group is public, or the link was created for direct joining, you become a member immediately, even if the group is private;
  • if the group is private and the link requires approval, a request is filed that an admin has to approve.

Below that you choose who is joining and press the button. One submission uses up one use of the link, however many people you selected. People who are already members are skipped, and no new request is filed for someone whose request is already pending.

When you become a member directly you get a notification that you were added to the group. When a request is filed, the group's admins are notified.

Good to know

If the link is single-use, it stops working for everyone else after your submission.

The school can give a link an expiry date and a limited number of uses.

On this screen

You have been invited to join card

Which group and school the invite is for.

Lets you check it is the right group before you enrol.

Shows the group name, the school name, whether the group is Public or Private, what will happen when you join, and the group description if there is one.

What happens when you join

Joining adds you immediately, no approval needed.

A line saying whether you join straight away or a request is filed.

Warns you up front whether you'll need to wait for approval.

  • "Joining adds you immediately, no approval needed.": a public group or a direct-join link.
  • "This group is private, joining files a request awaiting admin approval.": a private group with an approval link.

Choosing who is joining

Pick the child or children who will attend the group, or yourself.

Makes sure the right person is enrolled in the group.

What you see depends on your profile:

  • No children in your profile: it reads You are joining, with your name and "You (adult participant)". There is nothing to choose.
  • One child: it reads Your child is joining and the child is selected in advance.
  • Several children: it reads Which child is joining? and nobody is selected. Tap each child who will attend.

Tapping a person's whole card selects or deselects them. Selecting a child always removes you from the selection, a child and you can't be enrolled in the same submission.

I am the one attending, not my child button

Enrols you instead of your child.

Lets an adult with children in their profile enrol themselves when they are the participant.

Opens a panel with the warning "Careful: this enrols you as the participant. Your child will not be added to the class." and a card with your name. Tap the card to select yourself. Until you do, you can go back with Enrol [name] instead or Choose a child instead.

Join button

Enrol [name]

Submits the enrolment for the selected people.

Enrols the selected people or files a request for them, and uses up one use of the link.

The wording names who you are enrolling, so you can catch a mistake at the last moment:

  • Enrol [name] / Request a place for [name]: one child is selected;
  • Enrol myself / Request a place for myself: you selected yourself and have children in your profile;
  • Join Group / Request to Join: in every other case.

While nobody is selected the button is inactive and below it reads "Tap a name above to continue."

Link usage hints

Short notes above the button about how many times the link can be used.

Warn you when one submission uses up the link.

  • "This link works only once, make sure the right person is selected before you continue.": the link is single-use.
  • "Everyone selected joins together in this one submission.": you selected more than one person.
  • "N uses left": the link has a limited number of uses.

You're in! / Request sent message

The result after you press the button.

Tells you whether you are now a member or waiting for approval.

  • You're in!: "You have joined [group]." You are now a member.
  • Request sent: "[group] is a private group, your request is waiting for admin approval."

The Go to Group button opens the group's page.

This invite link doesn't work message

The link can't be recognised.

Tells you the link is wrong and gives you a way out.

Shown when the link is mistyped or no longer exists. The Browse Classes button takes you to the schools page. Ask the group admin for a new link.

This invite link is no longer usable message

The link is recognised but no longer active.

Explains why the link stopped working, instead of letting you press a button that would fail.

The reason is one of:

  • Used, "This link has already been used." Its allowed number of uses is used up.
  • Expired, "This link has expired." Its validity period has passed.
  • Revoked, "This link was revoked by the group admin."

The Go to Group button opens the group's page, where you can enrol the usual way.
