Push notifications on your phone
How the Classes mobile app sends notifications to your phone and what to do if they don't arrive.
Ask ClassyStep by step
- 1
Open the Classes mobile app and log in.
- 2
When your phone asks, allow notifications.
- 3
Optionally choose which kinds of notifications you want under My Profile → Notifications in your profile.
How it works
Alerts you on your phone straight away, even when the app is closed, about new announcements, session changes, charges and other events, so you don't have to keep checking.
Push notifications only work in the mobile app for iPhone and Android. There are none in the browser, there, new notifications show up in the Notifications panel.
Turning them on: when you open the app while logged in, your phone asks whether to allow notifications from Classes. If you allow them, the phone is linked to your account and starts receiving notifications.
What you receive: the same notifications that appear in the Notifications panel, minus the kinds you've turned off in Notifications in your profile.
If the app is open, the notification shows as a short message at the top of the screen with its title and text.
Tapping a notification opens the app. It doesn't take you straight to the announcement or session, open the relevant section or the Notifications panel.
Good to know
A push notification is only sent while it's still current. If it can't be delivered within a few minutes (for example, your phone is offline), it's dropped, but it stays in the in-app Notifications panel.
If you declined the permission, turn on notifications for Classes in your phone's settings and reopen the app.
Members added by the school without their own Classes account don't receive notifications.

Frequently asked questions
Why am I not getting notifications on my phone?
Check that notifications for Classes are allowed in your phone's settings, that you've opened the app while logged in since then, and that the kind of notification isn't turned off under **My Profile** → **Notifications** in your profile. A notification that couldn't reach your phone within a few minutes isn't sent later, but it is in the **Notifications** panel.
Do I get push notifications in the browser?
No. In the browser, new notifications only appear in the **Notifications** panel in the sidebar.
