How it works
Keeps everything the platform has told you in one place so you don't miss a schedule change, a new charge or an answer to a request, in the browser and in the mobile app.
The Notifications button is a bell on the right of the box with your picture and name at the bottom of the side menu. The number on it is how many notifications are unread. On a phone the number also shows on the Open menu button, because the bell is inside the menu.
Pressing it opens a panel with your latest 20 notifications, newest first. As soon as the panel is open, the unread notifications shown are marked as read and the number disappears.
The list refreshes by itself, every 20 seconds while the panel is open and every minute while it is closed. There are no push notifications in the browser, so new notifications show up here.
You only get notifications for the kinds you haven't turned off in My Profile → Notifications. Turned-off ones don't appear in the panel either.
Good to know
Notifications without a linked page only describe the event. Some notifications, for example a reply from the Classes team to a ticket in Help desk and an offered plan choice, are buttons: pressing one closes the panel and opens the matching page.
The panel only shows the latest 20 notifications; older ones can't be reached from it.
The number on the button only counts the unread ones among the latest 20. Above 99 it shows "99+".
With the side menu collapsed on a computer, the bell isn't visible, expand the menu to use it.

Frequently asked questions
How do I stop a certain kind of notification?

Can I delete a notification?
No. Notifications can only be read; older ones drop out of the panel as new ones arrive.
