Pinned announcements

How important announcements stay on top and visible in a separate Pinned section.

Step by step

    Open Announcements under Admin Actions in the menu.

    Press the Pin announcement icon at the top of the card.

  3. 3

    To unpin, press Unpin announcement on the card or in the Pinned section.

How it works

Pinning keeps important announcements, rules, the season schedule, contacts, in front of everyone even when newer ones are published.

Staff with the Publish announcements permission pin and unpin announcements with the pin icon on the card. A pinned announcement:

  • always stays at the top of the feed, with a pin next to the author's name and a highlighted border;
  • also appears in the Pinned section, in a column on the right on large screens, and above the feed on phones and tablets.

Pinning sends no notifications and doesn't change who can see the announcement. Any staff member with the permission can pin and unpin announcements within the groups they have access to, not only the author.

Pinning and unpinning are done from the Announcements page in the admin area. In the school's Announcements tab everyone sees the pinned announcements, but the pin buttons aren't shown, not even to staff.

Good to know

If you have picked a group in the filter, the Pinned section also shows only the pinned announcements for that group.

Pin announcement / Unpin announcement button

The pin icon on the card that pins or unpins the announcement.

Moves the announcement to the top and into the Pinned section, or returns it to its place by date.

Only shown to staff with the Publish announcements permission. On an unpinned announcement the icon is Pin announcement; on a pinned one it is coloured and labelled Unpin announcement. The button is disabled while the change saves.

Pinned section

A short list of pinned announcements with a counter.

Gives quick access to important announcements without hunting for them in the feed.

Next to the Pinned heading is the number of pinned announcements. Press the heading to collapse or expand the section.

On large screens the section is always in the right-hand column and stays visible as you scroll. On phones and tablets it sits above the feed and only appears when something is pinned.

Pinned announcement in the section

A shortened view of a pinned announcement.

Shows briefly what the announcement is about and takes you to it in the feed.

Shows the title, when it was published, the author, the first two lines of text and the tags. Press it to scroll the feed to the full announcement, if it hasn't loaded yet, the feed loads more until it finds it, then briefly highlights it.

Unpin announcement button in the section

Unpins the announcement straight from the Pinned section.

Removes the announcement from the pinned ones without finding its card in the feed.

Only shown to staff with the Publish announcements permission. The announcement leaves the section and returns to its place by date in the feed.

What the section shows when nothing is pinned.

Explains what the section is for while it's empty.

Below the heading it says "Pin important announcements to keep them visible here for all members." You only see it on large screens, on phones and tablets the empty section is hidden.
